The Future of Materials Research II (FOM II) Workshop

Call for Abstractsand New Proposals*

: The 2nd Annual Future Of Materials workshop(FOM II) aims to address the grand challenges facing the next generation of functional  materials by fostering collaborative activities that harness a wide-range of research tools and intellectual resources within the Research Triangle area.
To foster a collaborative and forward-looking community FOM II will feature a non-traditional format where participants are encouraged to pitch new proposals as opposed to presenting finished work.  We seek new proposal ideas from teams of graduate students and post-docs (only minimal consultation with PI’s is permitted).  A two-page proposal (excluding references), preferably with preliminary data, should be submitted on registration page.   The most competitive proposals will earn the chance to make an oral presentation during FOM II and monetary prizes will be awarded for the top oral proposal pitches.  In addition, we seek contributions for a very small number of oral presentations based on completed high impact work.  Contributions not chosen for oral presentations will be included in the FOM II poster session and entered into the poster prize competition.
The workshop will include two plenary talks by invited speakers (TBD).
*Note:  Only graduate students and post-docs will be allotted oral, while proposal presentations are summited only by graduate students.  More senior personnel may contribute posters.
