Organic semiconductors are the heart of all organic electronic devices. In ORaCEL, we are committed to designing and synthesizing materials with desired optoelectronic properties. You research group at UNC-Chapel Hill excels in synthesizing various conjugated polymers. In particular, the donor-acceptor polymer PBnDT-FTAZ (See Schematic) has successfully been used to develop organic solar cells with efficiency exceeding 12%.
ORaCEL research also focuses on synthesizing organic small molecules, quantum dots, and perovskites for various applications. Typical examples include a synthesis of uniquely defined quantum dot and surface-anchored molecular acceptors for realizing the transfer of triplet exciton energy. This work was recently reported by Castellano research group in Science.
